Steppenwolf Announces Broadway's Brian d'Arcy James (2024)

Steppenwolf Theatre Company and Mark Cortale are pleased to announce two lively musical performances with five-time Tony Award nominee Brian d'Arcy James on Saturday, December 7, 2024 (3 pm & 7:30 pm) in Steppenwolf’s Downstairs Theater, 1650 N. Halsted St. in Chicago.

James will perform songs from the classic American songbook, pop favorites and of course the Broadway canon, including signature songs he originated from shows such asHamilton,Shrek the Musical,Wild PartyandDays of Wine and Roses, to name a few. Not only will this Broadway vet and Northwestern alumperform the music you know and love, but you’ll also learn what these songs mean to him in an intimate and personal evening of story and song.

About the Artist

Brian d’Arcy James just recently finished his Broadway run as Joe Clay inDays of Wine and Rosesin March 2024. He can most recently be seen in the Netflix FilmPain Hustlersopposite Emily Blunt and Chris Evans; in the feature filmShe Came To Me, opposite Anne Hathaway, Peter Dinklage and Marissa Tomei; in the David E. Kelly miniseriesLove and Death, opposite Elizabeth Olsen; and in Jason Katim’sFugue, opposite Connie Britton for Apple TV+. Brian can be seen in a large recurring arc onEvilon Paramount +, inThe Comey Ruleon Showtime and inDevson Hulu. He was Officer Krupke in the Oscar-nominatedWest Side Story, directed by Steven Spielberg, and co-starred inThe Kitchenopposite Melissa McCarthy. Other film credits includeFirst Man,Molly's GameandSpotlight, for which he won a SAG Award. Brian has starred in fifteen shows on Broadway, includingInto the WoodsandThe Ferryman, and has been nominated for five Tony Awards. He originated the role of “King George” inHamilton.

Mark Cortale is currently lead producing Table 17 by Douglas Lyons starring Tony Award Winner Kara Young that opens Off-Broadway at MCC on September 6, as well as the Broadway musical Floyd Collins by Adam Guettel and Tina Landau that opens at Lincoln Center Theater on April 21, 2025 at The Beaumont. Last season Mark produced the critically acclaimed three-time Tony nominated new musical Days of Wine and Roses starring Kelli O’Hara and Brian d’Arcy James, with music and lyrics by Adam Guettel, book by Craig Lucas and directed by Michael Greif. He also produced the Drama Desk and Lucille Lortel nominated Off-Broadway musical Midnight at the Never Get by Mark Sonnenblick in 2018. He recently celebrated his twelfth and final season as Producing Artistic Director of The Art House in Provincetown where he presented artists that included Patti LuPone, Audra McDonald, Sutton Foster, Jessie Mueller, Christine Ebersole and Megan Mullally. Mark is the Producing Artistic Director of the developmental theatre lab New Works Provincetown which he founded in 2020.
