What are the results of the PGT test? ›

Abnormal PGT-M results mean the embryo is expected to be affected with the condition for which it was tested. Therefore, those embryos are typically not recommended for transfer. An embryo with normal PGT-SR results is predicted to have the correct amount of each chromosome with no detectable missing or extra pieces.

PGT for Gender Selection

Studies suggest a 95% success rate of correct gender selection when using IVF with preimplantation genetic selection. This makes PGT the single most effective method at sex selection.

What is preimplantation genetic testing? Preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) is a screening test that can be performed on embryos created via in vitro fertilization (IVF) to genetically analyze the embryos prior to transfer.

No single gene has been identified as causing autism, so PGT cannot be used to screen for autism. However, some research is being done on using PGT to detect ASD susceptibility genes. This research is still in its early stages, and it is unclear how effective PGT would be in identifying embryos at risk for ASD.

PGT-A (PGS) tests all 23 pairs of chromosomes for structural/numerical abnormalities. IVF with PGT-A has a greater than 98% accuracy in identifying the gender of each embryo tested. PGT-A can also determine which embryos are genetically abnormal and eliminate chromosome-related diseases like down syndrome.

Since the test results usually take about 2 weeks to come back, all embryos will be cryopreserved until the results of the analysis are available.
